The cold weather is moving out and it's the first day of Spring...yippie...happy dance... :)
It is also the beginning of wedding season.
I often wonder when I receive an email requesting my package prices, what makes that bride choose me or not choose me. What's important to a bride and groom, money, style, connecting with the photographer? Maybe all the above?
Well it made me think about my own wedding many moons ago. I remember talking with my now husband, how not only my dress was important but we wanted amazing pictures. We knew that years later, after the day is gone and the dress is packed away and the food is gone and the flowers have died, what do you have left.
Pictures.
So yesterday I pulled out my wedding album and as I flipped through the pages I couldn't help but remember every single detail. I remember when the doors open, arm in arm with my dad, I remember the line " in sickness and in health" and how I trembled when I said it. How my family drove all the way from Colorado to see me marry my soul mate.
And how my nephew who is no longer with us, is in those pictures. In that album.
I never dreamed back then that I would now be a photographer, photographing those moments, those memories.
I will admit I am a helpless romantic. I live for those movies like Pretty Woman where the girl finds her prince. I absolutely love couples that are totally in love with each other and have found their soul mates.
So when someone asks me for my pricing, I kinda make them work for it :) I want them to not only feel like I am a good fit for them, but I want to make sure they are a good fit for me.
I mean who wants to spend the next 6-12 months planning a wedding with a photographer they don't connect with. I wan them to know exactly what they are getting when they say " yes" to me.
I not only capture the day, but I capture the moments. I believe those special, unexpected moments are just as important as the every day wedding photos.
It's your once in a lifetime day. It's the day you will look back on years from now, and you will want to relive it through your pictures.
